This was a prototype project for the Dallas Oregon Rotary. In July the Dallas Rotary sponsers a car show. They asked me to make art glass trophies for them. This was one of 50 pieces I did. No two were the same.
To make these, I placed scrap glass into a terra cotta flower pot. I then place the pot into my kiln, setting it on a type of bridge. The kiln is then heated to 1650°. At that temperature the glass is hot enough to be pretty runny. It runs out the hole in the bottom of the pot to create a very kinetic type of glass art.
Each glass disk was then placed into a wooden myrtlewood base. The bases are made by a local artisan. Myrtlewood is grown on the southern Oregon Coast. Oregon and the Holy Lands are two of only a few places this type of myrtlewood grows.
