This plate was made using a special pattern bar method. Pattern bars are made by cutting strips of glass of different colors and different widths. The strips are then stacked up to create a pattern. The stacks of glass are then fired in a kiln to preserve the pattern.
Once the stacks are fired and cooled, I use a tile saw to cut these blocks into small pieces much like a loaf of bread. These "bread" pieces are then arranged on a base piece of glass and fired to create the patterns.
In this particular, plate once I cut the "bread" pieces I restacked them and fired them again to create a new block. I then cut these new blocks into "bread" pieces and arranged them in the middle of this plate to create the small busy detail you see.
