Return to Stained Glass Gallery

flower garden Elva's Conservatory was a commission window that was done to fit into Elva's greenhouse. This was a fun window to do because her husband ordered it for her birthday and his only instructions were that it had to fit the template he provided and it needed to say "Elva's Conservatory". It was to have flowers but no iris and no pink. The design was completely left up to me.

This was one of those moments when I could see the completed window in my mind and the design just came to me. It was a fun project because I was able to design a number of different flowers and was able to use a lot of types and colors of glass, but of course no pink!

In order to give the window a cleaner look I chose to use a fused glass technique to make the lettering. Using a glass saw I cut out the letters and then fused them to a wispy white base glass. To make the hyacinth type flowers at the bottom of the window, I used glass nuggets. In order to make the tall non-descript purple flowers on the right I made my own purple glass nuggets. All of this helped to add texture and dimension to the window.

This window was a real delight to design and make.
